The 2001 League Events & Tariff Table

What the League is intended to do & how it works.
The League promotes high level competition between club teams, but also provides an arena in which individuals can distinguish themselves. It provides a stairway to experience and perhaps to success. There is a general classification in which clubs and individuals are classed on their best four results across the season. There is also an Endurance Competition and a Duathlon competition. Ladies have their own classification, but can also score for their club's main team. Clubs may mix and match their events as they please across these various competitions in order to get their best four results. A trophy is awarded every year to the top team, to individuals in the various categories, and this year for the first time to veterans
40+, 50+, and 60+.

Scoring
Every year the League publishes a list of recommended events. Each event has a tariff of points. The winner scores the full tariff; other finshers score a percentage of the tariff depending on how long in time they finish after the winner. In foreign events and domestic events which regularly attract foreign competitors, Brits score their points in relation to the first Brit to finish.

Publicity
What's happening in the League is reported in TriNews, and leaguers are strongly recocommended to join the BTA to get their free copy, together with the free handbook and other benefits. What your club does in the League may be reported in TriNews and could help to attract new members.

Events
The League list always includes a good selection of short distance events so that no athlete need feel overstretched. The Endurance Competition includes all events with a tariff of 190 or above, and competitors are classed on their best three events. Competitors in the Duathlon Competition must complete three duathlons and one triathlon; this requirement is intended to encourage athletes to swim.

Established League clubs should receive entry forms by the end of March. Club secretaries thinking of entering their club in the League can contact me for further info.
