eyup daddy to be reesy
Raced in the dales on Sunday at Helwith Bridge and what a perfect if cold day it turned out. There seemed to be no wind at all but driving along the A65 the temperature gauge on the car dropped from 5 oC in Leeds to 0 oC at the start Brrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! an hour before the race I went out for a bit of a warm up with all the clothes on I had and came back not being able to feel my fingers but by the time we started the sun had done it's job and it had warmed up a bit.
On the first 4m hilly run I tried to go with the pace and even found myself at the front at one bit but the hills took the zip out of my legs and entered t1 in 4th.
Managed to get round the 23m,hilly (surprise surprise) bike course without getting too cold but the long drag back up to transition had wiped the grin from my face from the downhill into Ingleton. It was worth doing the race just for that stretch. Approx 5 miles at 35-45 ish mph, what a blast!
On to the final run which was a repeat of the first, Brian Field the winner had disappeared up the road before I started so I knew I wasn't going to catch him. The hills honestly didn't seem as bad 2nd time round, but I think that was because you knew what was coming next.
I really enjoyed the race and the course is tough without been too hard. It's run by the same guy that does the York's dales tri and duathlon (Harry Waugh). Think I'll do it again next year. I believe he puts the race on in spring as well.
Angie Went was flying the nyp flag and came in a fantastic 5th with a huge grin on her face!! so she can't have been trying hard enough! either that or she just enjoys suffering but then don't we all?
